“This is the Discover card Fraud department. Call 1-800-555-1212 - IMMEDIATELY
Sounds ominous, right? So I call them up, and I hear a serious voice telling me to please hold on, then I hear the official sounding “you are being recorded” beep beep beep.
Then the voice comes on the phone and says, “Thanks for calling Discover Card. Please give me your Discover Card number.”
What would you do? I am worried about fraud on my card, right? But do I know who I am actually talking to?

I’d look on the web for discover’s fraud contact information on their site and call that number. Even if you’re supposed to call contact another number, they will be aware of the suspicious activity and can forward you to whoever you’re supposed to talk to.
I would definitely be suspicious in your position and not give any info to that number.

The one time that I had some fraud on my credit card, my company called me and a recording said: “This is regarding your credit card ending in 1234, we just received a transaction of $321 at located in South Korea. Did you make this transaction?”
I pressed the key for no, and an operator came on and asked me to verify the last week’s worth of transactions.
Sounds like your experience was a scammer.

If you call 1-800-Discove(r) (thier customer service line//the number on the back of your card) and tell them you recieved a call from the Fraud department, they will transfer you and inform you if they did infact call or not.

I just got that from my discover card site…it shut me out and gave me a number to call for fraud. I’d received an e-mail earlier that I thought might be spam. I pulled the card out and called the number on the back to make sure it was for real…it was. Someone was trying to use my card online through the vitamin store and walgreen’s. I haven’t tried using either of those recently so those charges are being held.

If you call from the number not listed on your account, they have no idea what account you belong to. So eventually you’re going to have to give it to them to get into your account. Although if you are directed to a representative, they can search for your account by name.

I work for discovercard.
call 1800 discover
ask to speak to Loss Prevention Security.
and explain the number.
the only reason any Discovercard Employee should be asking for the full account number. is if their system didnt pull the account number up.
