iTunes 8 Genius is calling home
I just downloaded the new ITunes 8. It has this new thing called the iTunes Genius which seems like it is going to help me create play lists or something. Maybe it's gonna out Pandora Pandora or Last.FM. Don't know exactly what I am getting but I pushed the big red button and got it enabled.
I got curious though when I saw the CPU pegged for a while and saw this 'progress bar':
Looks like iTunes is giving me a colonoscopy and sending all the results to Apple.
Now I love Apple but this gives me a little bit of the creeps. I have no secrets (that I know of) buried in my play lists.
Still.
Anyone?

As long as you get notified by the app, I have no problem at all with that, none.
On the other hand, if it had been hidden, then I'd understand being worried.
If it's hidden then how would you know it's there? I'm sure most of apps we have installed do this in a subtle way. My certainty dates back to the times when I used Windows and had a firewall setup that constantly buzzed about an app trying to send something to its home. I mean CONSTANTLY.
As for the Genius, I disabled it completely after the discovery that (a) it needs an iTunes store account, and (b) all it does is helping me to find tunes that I would be interested in buying (and in not so intelligent way).
I recant. I have now discovered that the genius feature can create really cool playlists from my own music. Really cool because I am rediscovering music that I have and really like but haven't listed to in forever.
By the way, did you notice the progression, playlist are getting smarter and smarter?
